Fraser Beach is a serene stretch of golden sand on the shores of Lake Sumner, about a 40-minute drive from Hanmer Springs. This hidden gem offers a peaceful escape with crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming, kayaking, or simply soaking up the mountain views. The beach is part of the Lake Sumner Forest Park, so expect a wild, unspoiled setting with native bush tumbling down to the water's edge. It's a favourite with locals for a summer dip or a picnic, and the lack of crowds means you often have the place to yourself.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a half-day at Fraser Beach, arriving for a morning swim and picnic lunch, then heading back to Hanmer Springs in the afternoon. If you're keen on hiking or fishing, you could easily fill a full day. For a truly relaxing experience, pack a book and spend the whole afternoon lounging on the sand. Note that there is no accommodation at the beach, so plan to return to Hanmer Springs or a nearby campground.
