Most travellers tackle the Alpine Pacific Trail over two to three days, cycling between 30–50 km per day. The full trail is 113 km, so allow at least three days to fully appreciate the scenery and stops. If you're short on time, you can sample sections as day rides, such as the Kaikōura to Oaro coastal stretch or the Waipara to Hanmer Springs leg. Walking the entire route takes four to five days, with accommodation options in each town.
