Cooks Beach is a serene slice of Coromandel paradise, named after Captain Cook who anchored here in 1769. With its calm, crystal-clear waters and soft white sand, it's the perfect spot for a quintessential New Zealand beach day. The beach is backed by a grassy reserve and pohutukawa trees that burst into crimson bloom in summer, creating a postcard-perfect setting.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Spend a full day to truly unwind: swim, kayak to Cathedral Cove, and then head to Hot Water Beach at low tide. If you're short on time, a half-day is enough for a swim and a coastal walk. Many visitors base themselves in Cooks Beach for 2–3 days, using it as a launchpad to explore the wider Mercury Bay area.
