Imagine a multi-day walk that plunges you into a landscape of lush native bush, dramatic sea cliffs, and secluded coves, all within easy reach of Christchurch. The Banks Peninsula Track is a private, 4-day guided or self-guided journey through the wild heart of Banks Peninsula, offering a rare blend of coastal and forest scenery, rich Māori and European history, and genuine kiwi hospitality at each overnight hut.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 3 days and 2 nights for the full self-guided track (or 4 days if you take a guided option). Most walkers start mid-morning on day one and finish by late afternoon on day three. The daily walking distances are moderate (8–15 km), leaving time to enjoy the scenery, swim at secret beaches, and chat with hut hosts. It’s best paced as a relaxed, immersive experience rather than a race.
