Mount Aspiring Road is one of New Zealand's great alpine drives, a winding gravel ribbon that burrows deep into the heart of Mount Aspiring National Park. Starting near the tiny settlement of Jackson Bay, this road offers a raw, unfiltered immersion into the Southern Alps, with jaw-dropping views of hanging glaciers, beech forests, and the braided rivers that carve through the valleys. It's a journey for those who crave solitude and epic landscapes, far from the crowds.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for a full day (6–8 hours) to drive the road and complete the Rob Roy Glacier Track. If you're short on time, a half-day allows for the drive and a short walk like the Blue Pools. The road is gravel and can be slow, especially after rain, so factor in extra time for photo stops and wildlife (look for kea and weka).
