The Rob Roy Glacier Track is one of the most rewarding day hikes in Mount Aspiring National Park, offering a close-up encounter with a hanging glacier and thundering waterfalls. The track leads through lush beech forest, across swing bridges, and up to a lookout point where the sheer face of Rob Roy Glacier looms above, with constant ice avalanches providing a dramatic soundtrack. It's a must-do for any visitor to the Wanaka region.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow a full half-day for the return hike, typically 3–4 hours return from the car park. The track is 10 km round trip with moderate elevation gain. Start early to avoid afternoon cloud build-up and to enjoy the best light on the glacier. Combine with a morning or afternoon in Wanaka town for a perfect day out.
