This rugged landscape is famous for its schist rock formations, turquoise waters, and adrenaline-pumping activities, including bungy jumping at the historic Kawarau Bridge. The gorge is a gateway to Central Otago's wine country and offers a mix of natural beauty and adventure.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend half a day to a full day exploring Kawarau Gorge. If you're just stopping for a bungy jump and photos, 1–2 hours is enough. However, to combine rafting or jet boating with a winery visit, plan for a full day. The gorge is easily accessible as a stop on the drive between Queenstown and Cromwell.
