Perched on the edge of a dramatic river gorge, the Kawarau Bungy Centre is the birthplace of commercial bungy jumping. Since 1988, this iconic site near Cromwell has drawn thrill-seekers from around the globe to leap from the historic Kawarau Bridge, suspended 43 metres above the turquoise waters of the Kawarau River. Even if you're not jumping, the energy here is infectious — you can watch jumpers plunge and swing, soak up the stunning canyon views, and learn about the pioneering spirit that made Queenstown the adventure capital of the world.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for 1–2 hours if you're just spectating or doing one activity; allow half a day if you want to do both the bungy and the zipride, plus enjoy the café and soak in the scenery. The centre is open daily, and it's best to book ahead for jumps, especially in peak summer and winter seasons. Arrive early to avoid crowds and make the most of the morning light for photos.
