Bannockburn is a tiny, sun-drenched historic gold-mining settlement on the shores of the Kawarau River, just a short drive from Cromwell. Its dry, hot summers and cool winters create a microclimate perfect for vineyards, and the area is now a celebrated wine-growing region, particularly known for its pinot noir. The landscape is a dramatic mix of rocky hills, abandoned gold diggings, and neat rows of vines, offering a fascinating glimpse into Central Otago's past and present.
