Stretching for 27 kilometres through Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, Tasman Glacier is New Zealand's longest and most accessible glacier. The terminal lake, formed by retreating ice, is dotted with house-sized icebergs that drift in milky blue water. A short walk or boat tour brings you face-to-face with this dynamic ice world, where the constant crack and groan of the glacier reminds you of its ancient power.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allocate half a day to fully experience the glacier. The viewpoint walk takes about 1 hour, while a boat cruise adds another 2–3 hours. If you're adding a helicopter ride, plan for a full day. The area is best visited between November and April when the weather is milder and lake ice has melted for boat tours.
