Kawarau Bridge Bungy is where the world's first commercial bungy jump began in 1988, and it's still one of New Zealand's most iconic adrenaline experiences. Suspended 43 metres above the turquoise Kawarau River, this historic bridge near Queenstown lures thrill-seekers from across the globe. The setting is spectacular: a narrow gorge flanked by golden rock walls and vineyards, with the river snaking far below. Even if you're not jumping, the atmosphere is electric — you can watch from the viewing platform, grab a drink at the riverside café, and soak in the legend of AJ Hackett's pioneering leap.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for 1–2 hours if you’re just watching and soaking in the atmosphere, or 2–3 hours if you're jumping (including check-in, gear-up, and the jump itself). If you're on a self-drive itinerary, it's a perfect short stop between Queenstown and Gibbston Valley — combine with a wine tasting for a half-day outing.
