Pohara Beach is a golden-sand crescent on Tasman Bay, framed by the lush hills of Abel Tasman National Park. This relaxed coastal settlement offers calm, safe swimming and a classic Kiwi beach vibe, with a small store and a couple of cafes. It's the perfect base for exploring the park's famous coastline or simply unwinding with a book and the sound of lapping waves.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 2–3 days in the Pohara Beach area. This allows for a day of beach relaxation and a full day exploring Abel Tasman National Park via water taxi and a walk, plus time to explore Takaka and nearby attractions like Te Waikoropupū Springs. If you're on a tight schedule, a single overnight stay can still give you a taste of the beach and a short walk in the park.
