Mount Amiri, a rugged peak rising above the Hanmer Basin, offers one of the most rewarding day walks in the Hanmer Springs area. Its exposed summit rewards hikers with sweeping views across the Amuri Plain and the distant Seaward Kaikōura Range, while the trail itself weaves through mountain beech forest and tussock-clad tops.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow a half-day for the return walk – typically 3–4 hours depending on fitness. Combine it with a morning at the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools or an afternoon exploring the nearby forest trails. For keen photographers, an early start to catch the sunrise over the plains is highly recommended.
