Perched above the thermal spa town of Hanmer Springs, the Conical Hill Walkway is a short but rewarding climb that delivers big views for little effort. The track winds through native beech forest and across open tussock slopes, culminating in a panoramic lookout over the Hanmer Basin and the surrounding alpine ranges. It's a perfect leg-stretcher after soaking in the hot pools, offering a gentle introduction to the region's high-country scenery.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 1.5–2 hours for the return walk, including time at the summit. The track is 2.2 km (1.4 miles) each way with a steady climb of about 200 m (656 ft). It's a great half-day activity when combined with other Hanmer Springs attractions or a shorter option if you're passing through. Start early to avoid the midday heat in summer, or go late afternoon for softer light and fewer people.
