Perched above the historic gold-mining town of Cardrona, the field offers sweeping views across the Southern Alps and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it a favourite with both first-timers and seasoned riders.
Highlights & What to See
- Terrain Parks – Cardrona is world-famous for its progression-friendly parks, including a halfpipe, slopestyle features, and the legendary Soho Bowl for advanced freestylers.
- McDougall's Chutes – Expert skiers and snowboarders can tackle steep, narrow chutes off the back of the Saddle Basin for a backcountry feel within the ski area.
- Captain's Basin – A vast, open intermediate playground with wide groomed runs and stunning views of the Remarkables and Lake Wānaka.
- Cardrona Café – The iconic, sun-drenched deck at the base is the perfect spot for a mulled wine or hot chocolate while soaking up the alpine scenery.

Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors find a full day (8–9 hours) sufficient to explore the main trails and parks, especially if you're keen on lapping the lifts. For families or beginners, half-days are common. If you're a freestyle enthusiast, you could easily spend two days working through the parks. The ski field operates from late June to early October, with the best snow typically in August and September.
