Amuri Ski Field is a compact, family-friendly club ski field perched on the slopes of the Hanmer Range, just a short drive from Hanmer Springs. With uncrowded slopes, affordable lift passes, and a welcoming vibe, it's a fantastic spot for beginners and intermediates, while offering enough challenge for advanced skiers to enjoy a relaxed day out. The field boasts stunning views over the Amuri Basin and the Seaward Kaikōura Range, and its sunny aspect means plenty of bluebird days.
Highlights & What to See
- Skiing and snowboarding – The field has a good mix of gentle beginner slopes, wide intermediate runs, and a few steeper advanced trails, all served by two platter lifts and a T-bar. The terrain park with jumps and rails adds fun for freestylers.
- Scenic views – From the top of the T-bar, soak in panoramic views stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Southern Alps – a perfect photo op.
- Snow play and tubing – A dedicated snow play area and tubing run make it a hit with families and non-skiers.
- Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa – After a day on the slopes, soak your muscles in the famous hot pools just 20 minutes away.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors spend a full day skiing or snowboarding, arriving early to make the most of the fresh snow. If you're short on time, a half-day (from 10am to 2pm) still gives you a good taste. The field is open daily during winter (June–October), and you can easily combine it with a stay in Hanmer Springs for a weekend getaway.
