Winding through the sun-drenched valleys of Banks Peninsula, the Akaroa Wine Trail is a delightful detour for oenophiles and scenery lovers alike. This compact trail connects a handful of boutique vineyards, each with its own character and stunning views over the turquoise harbour. The region's cool-climate pinot noir and aromatic whites shine here, and the French-influenced heritage of Akaroa adds a charming layer to the experience.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for a leisurely half-day to a full day. Start mid-morning, allowing 30–45 minutes at each winery, and break for lunch at one of the vineyard cafés or in Akaroa. The driving loop is short (around 30 km total), so you can easily combine tastings with a harbour cruise or a walk in the Hinewai Reserve. If you're short on time, pick two or three wineries and linger.
