Levin

Levin is a laid-back town in the Horowhenua region, often overlooked by travellers zipping along State Highway 1 between Wellington and the central North Island. But those who pause will find a friendly community, a strong Māori heritage, and easy access to some of the lower North Island's best natural attractions. The town itself has a workaday charm, with a decent main street and a few surprises—like its thriving food scene and the nearby wetlands that are a haven for birdlife.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most travellers will find a half-day plenty to explore Levin's core attractions, including a coffee stop and a wander through the park. If you plan to visit Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre, budget at least two to three hours there, making a full day trip from Wellington or a convenient overnight stop on a longer journey.
