Housed in the historic Tākitimu (Takitimu) hangar on the outskirts of Christchurch, the Air Force Museum of New Zealand is a must-visit for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This free museum tells the story of the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) from its earliest days to the present, with an impressive collection of aircraft, engines, and interactive exhibits. The cavernous hangar is filled with restored planes, including a Spitfire, a Catalina flying boat, and a Skyhawk, while the on-site café and playground make it a family-friendly stop. You can easily spend a couple of hours exploring the hangars, trying flight simulators, and learning about New Zealand's military aviation heritage.
